Model SEG - Swivel Eye Grips

The SEG Series are available with hardened steel rotating eyes. The eyes are durable, compact, and streamlined and will thread through blocks and sheaves without binding. The rotating eye is not a ball bearing swivel and will not turn while under tension. It will turn to relieve pulling torque when the pulling tension is released. If a continual swivel movement is needed, a ball bearing swivel should be used. Reference swivel usages per following:

1. HD Series for overhead and high tension underground.

2. W Series for standard underground pulling.

3. HD-S Series when high tension environment is anticipated, coupled with a need for a sealed swivel such as in directional boring applications.

The SEG series can be customized to meet customer specifications. We offer the following options:

1. Special mesh lengths. When a customer would like a different mesh length than the one specified on the SEG chart.

2. Mesh available in two types of wire for varying applications and environments:

   • Galvanized (standard)

   • Stainless (316)

Model S-DW Swivel Grips

The S-DW series is a good option for pulling underground Primary or Secondary cables. The mesh is shorter and more flexible than the standard SEG series. These qualities are well suited for the demands of underground cable installation. The S-DW series is constructed of high grade galvanized cable that provides the user with a long wearing grip that is easy to load and unload. The swivel on this series turns only when pressure is released.

Underground Duct Pullers
 

These solid steel pullers are machined with a tapered buttress thread to grip the inside wall of polyethylene pipe and innerduct by simply screwing them into the opening. When properly installed, the gripping power of the puller is stronger than the tensile strength of the pipe or innerduct. Pullers are installed quickly and easily with a screwdriver shaft or metal rod.

Typical Applications:

1. Pulling polyethylene water pipe, gas pipe and cable ducting with a vibratory plow.

2. Installing innerduct inside large cable duct.

3. Installing pipe and ducting in Horizontal and Directional
   Drilling applications.

Maxi-Grips are durable and economical tools designed for pulling underground pipe and cable with speed and ease. Maxi-Grips can be used for either VIBRATORY PLOWS OR DIRECTIONAL BORING applications.
 

Maxi Grips

Maxi-Grips consist of two primary components - a uniquely designed steel nose cone device and a heavy duty plastic coated galvanized steel mesh grip. Six models enable contractors to pull pipe and cable from 1/2 inch to 4 1/2 inch outside diameters.

Maxi Grips E Series

When Directional Boring is the application, the Maxi-Grip E series is the tool of choice. There is no need for the conventional lost motion assembly while boring. Instead you need a solid attachment point and this series is just the ticket. The E series incorporates a solid eye which allows for direct attachment to the reamer head or any other pull back device.

Coupling and uncoupling to pipe and duct can now be done in just a few seconds without tools with our new Wedge-Grip.
 

Wedge Grip

Designed to pull pipe (including vibratory plowing) and boring pull-backs, it's ease of use, broad gripping range and rugged design make it an ideal grip for underground contractors.

Wedge-Grip's sleeve has a different bore size at each end that allows it to grip a broad range of both PVC and PE pipe. It will grip:

• 1" irrigation pipe SDR-11.5 and SDR-15

• 1" PVC pressure pipe SDR-21 and SCH-40

• 1" yellow gas pipe SDR-11

• 1" O.D. controlled innerduct SDR-11, 13.5, 15.5 and 40

• 1" I.D. controlled innerduct SDR-9 and 11.5

The grip's cone-shaped end cover reduces snagging, provides a smooth bore hole and, most importantly, keeps dirt out of the pipe. Additional protection from dirt is provided by a secondary shield - the sleeve's 1/2” thick web.

Gripper® Pipe Plugs

Lewis offers a line of Gripper pipe plugs to be used to seal the end of the pipe being pulled, especially in wet environments. The plugs do not damage the pipe and they ensure that no contaminants enter into the pipe being pulled. After the plug is installed, the Maxi-Grip is fitted over the plug and pipe.
